How to boost your family while you #flattenthecurve

As I’m writing this, we are a few hours away from the official start of COVID-19 school closures. It’s been amazing to see parents, moms and dads, really rally around how we were going to support our kids and each other through the next few weeks. There are no shortage of homeschool guides out there, the most popular one I’m seeing has been circulated by Khan Academy. This is not about that. (I will probably be more on the iPad/ Nintendo Switch reality bandwagon).

I too wondered how we will truly survive this. However, as a storyteller, I actually see this an opportunity for us all to lean in to writing our own stories in the next four weeks. What if we thought about it in new ways?

It’s not quarantine. It’s quality time.

It’s not Work from Home. It’s Work ON Home.

It’s not isolation. It’s breaking down walls.

If you’ve been following me on social media, you’ll know that I obsess about ONE THING every night at dinner time. I ask the family one question — and we go deep. Here’s the thing. Almost every American family will have the opportunity to sit down and have meals together every single day, for thirty days. This is unprecedented. And this means thirty opportunities for great questions, discussion and actions to occur. This idea sprang to me this morning while I was exercising on my Peloton bike. While still huffing and puffing my way through a Live Tunde ride, I texted my good friend Kylie Tuosto @GoodnightFox to see if I could convince her to partner with me. Despite being home with a newborn, she readily agreed. 12 hours later and we are shipping this beautiful, downloadable dinner-time workbook:

“30 Days of Us” Family Workbook

Each day when you sit down for a meal with your family, ask them one question. Listen and seek to understand where they’re coming from, especially the little ones who are feeling SO MUCH! Don’t limit this to your kids, FaceTime the grandparents — they would love to be apart of this. Why? Because there’s no better outcome that would come out of this (other than staying healthy) than to become a stronger family. Hope you enjoy this labor of love.
